Roberts Warr Electronics Ltd was founded in 1983 by Ron and Christine Roberts. Prior to this, Ron was founder and Managing Director of REL Ltd, a highly successful component distributor and power supply manufacturer. REL Industrial manufactured high tech power supplies for the Aerospace industry - British Aerospace being a major customer. The power supply used in the Rapier Missile system was designed and manufactured by RELI. In setting up RWE, the intention was to run a much smaller company in terms of employees, etc., concentrating more on the low cost market, importing product from Taiwan and now China. The new business was most successful in the computer market, selling more than 500,000 custom PSUs to Acorn Computers plc between 1986 and 1998 when Acorn decided to cease hardware manufacture.
